Welcome to Physical Education and Your Child

I believe that every student deserves the chance to try everything—to explore new skills and challenges—and that doing dangerous things safely builds courage, awareness, and competence. In my PE classroom, our goals are to build each other up, have fun, and grow both body and brain.

Physical education isn’t just games or sports; it is a key place where students develop physical literacy, responsibility, social skills, and a lifelong sense of well-being. My approach is guided by the SHAPE America National Physical Education Standards, which emphasize not only skill development and fitness, but also teamwork, safety, and enjoyment. I strive to help students learn movement and fitness while also growing values like confidence, respect, and joy.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What will my child be learning in Physical Education?

In my class, your child will be learning much more than just games or sports. They’ll develop physical skills like balance, coordination, and strength, but also social and personal skills such as teamwork, respect, and responsibility.

How will my child be graded?

Your child will be graded on effort, participation, and growth rather than just athletic ability. I look at how they:

  • Engage safely and responsibly during activities,

  • Show respect and teamwork with classmates,

  • Try new skills and give their best effort,

  • Demonstrate personal progress in fitness and understanding, and

  • Complete periodic knowledge checks to show what they’ve learned about health, fitness concepts, and safe practices.

Grades reflect a combination of participation, behavior, skill development, and understanding—so every child has the opportunity to succeed, no matter their starting point.

What if my child can't participate due to a physical disability or sickness?

Every child is valued in my class, and participation is always adapted to their individual needs. If a student has a physical disability, I will provide modified activities so they can safely join in, build confidence, and enjoy success alongside their peers. If your child is sick or recovering from an injury, they can still be part of the lesson through alternative roles such as helping keep score, encouraging teammates, or completing a short reflection or knowledge check.

The goal is for every student to stay engaged, continue learning, and feel included—no matter their situation.
